A home, venue for horse shows and tea parties, airstrip, a historical hunt cabin. Perhaps no other place in the country has a parcel of land that has had as many incarnations as The Greenbrier's Hunt Cabin.

The Hunt Cabin stands as both a historical landmark and center for the Sporting Club's outdoor pursuits and naturalist programs, including a two-person custom desk to tie your flies for fishing. A fully stocked fishing pond awaits just outside, and Howard's Creek sits just behind luring you to try your luck.

The Hunt Cabin can be reserved for private events like cocktail parties, intimate dinner parties and more. Imagine your next event in the rustic living room where guests can warm themselves on chilly spring evenings by the stone fireplace—or enjoy warm summer evenings relaxing on rocking chairs on the inviting porch.

1810 A brick house was built on the property by the Bowyer and the Calwell families, and visitors traveled by horse and carriage to the estate for garden tea parties.

1907, The Lewis family named the estate “The Meadows.”

1929 The property was sold to The Greenbrier who tore down the brick structure to create an airstrip.

1932 The Hunt Cabin is built and is the original Skeet & Trapshoot Club for The Greenbrier Hotel.

WWII The Greenbrier was converted into an Army hospital, Ashford General. After WWII The property was managed by the town of White Sulphur Springs who leased the airstrip to a private charter.

1950s The airstrip was extended as part of The Greenbrier’s role as secret relocation center for U.S. Congress. During this time, the log cabin deteriorated.

1980s The Greenbrier reacquired the property and closed the landing strip.

1994 The Greenbrier started the Wing Shooting Preserve Program

1996 The hunt cabin was restored and reopened.
